Boarding Policies

at Tavares Animal Hospital

General Information

We board dogs, cats, reptiles, birds, and pocket pets. Please call for a list of the supplies you will need to provide for reptiles, birds and pocket pets.

All boarders must be current patients of Tavares Animal Hospital.

As we have limited space available, boarding is on a reservation basis. We recommend that you call early for reservations.

Vaccines

In order to protect all pets that are staying in the hospital from infectious diseases, we require the following vaccinations:

Dogs

Rabies

Distemper

ParvoVirus

Bordatella

Cats

Rabies

Distemper/Respiratory vaccine

Vaccines should be given at least one week prior to boarding if possible. Proof of vaccination by a veterinarian is required. If your pet is in need of vaccines let us know when making reservations. One of our doctors can perform an exam and give the needed vaccinations when your pet arrives. If you would like to be present, please schedule a doctor appointment.

Drop off and Pick Up

Pets may be dropped off at a scheduled time on weekdays.

Pick up is between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm on Mondays to allow time for bathing and drying. Tuesday thru Friday pets may be picked up between 10:00 am and 5:00 pm. If possible, please call ahead to let us know when you plan to pick up. There is no weekend pick up available.

Feeding

Owners are encouraged to bring their pet’s own food when boarding. Diet changes of any kind can be stressful on pets. If your pet’s regular food is not provided, we will feed an appropriate Science Diet product. We also have other canned cat foods for our cat boarders who aren’t eating Science Diet well. If your pet eats a prescription diet that we have in stock, we can charge a small bag to your account and send the remainder home with your pet.

Belongings

You are welcome to bring any belongings that will make your pet feel more at home. Please permanently write your pets first and last name on everything belonging to them. Beds may not be able to be washed. All animals are provided with towels and blankets for comfort.

Bathing

Because we want to send all pets home in the best condition possible, all canine boarders staying 2 nights or more will be bathed before discharge. Prices vary depending on weight.

Medications and Treatments

We try everything possible to control the fleas in our hospital. If fleas are found on any animals entering for boarding, appropriate flea control products will be used.

Pets that require medications given or treatment while boarding may be charged a nominal additional fee.

While your pet is boarding we will always care for any medical needs that arise. We will not call you concerning minor treatments and will keep charges for these treatments to a minimum. This includes the treatment of internal and/or external parasites if needed.

If an actual emergency or more complicated/ involved medical concern arises, we need to be able to call you or your representative to discuss medical decisions, treatment plans, and charges. If we are unable to reach anyone, we will proceed with treatment as needed while continuing attempts are made to reach you.
